Vacherie, Louisiana is a small Westbank working town ‘bout an hour West from New Orleans, if you speed. It's in this town that I came into my own queerness: from "sissy" to gay to queer to genderqueer and “slut”. But as alone as I felt, a queer Vacherie did exist.
I’ve returned to my hometown of Vacherie to investigate a sprawling network of queers on how they navigated Vacherie, where and why they chose to leave, why (if) they chose to return, and what parts of this place stuck with them.
