Harlequin in the Ghetto (A Devised Theatre Piece)

Harlequin in the Ghetto is a devised theatre piece created by a group of artists selected by Dr. Alan Sikes of Louisiana State University in collaboration with Dr. Lisa Peschel of the University of York for the Performing the Jewish Archive Project produced by the Government of the United Kingdom. It was performed at Louisiana State University and the Out of the Shadows North American Festival for the PJA housed at the University of Wisconsin. In the World War II Jewish ghetto at Theresienstadt, a young prisoner named Zdeněk Jelínek wrote a play in the commedia dell'arte style about a question of urgent interest to them all: would Harlequin, the lovable clown, escape the clutches of the brutal Capitano? Survivors vividly recalled this play, Comedy about a Trap, for its poetry, its idealism, and for its humor. On April 26 and 27, 2016, students from LSU will present the world English-language premiere of that script, performed as part of work of devised theatre titled Harlequin in the Ghetto.
For this piece, I was the Sound Designer, Projections Designer, Student Dramaturg, and Leading Player "Columbina".
